我孩子今年考上了GEP, 可这两天学校分配结果出来, 不是我们想去的学校. 孩子现在的学校是个顶尖的邻里学校. 这个GEP 学校离家又远, 很多方面也比不上现在的学校． 唉,真不知道GEP还要上不上？
哪所GEP学校这么差？呵呵
你可以去要求换个GEP学校，换个离家比较近的。
其实，9所GEP学校学的东西都是一样的，MOE统一的教学大纲。
不妨换一个角度思考这个问题。

Why parents don’t understand the importance of GEP
For the 4 top secondary schools in Singapore : Raffles Institution, Raffles Girls Secondary School, Hwa Chong Institution and Nanyang Girls High School, they take in at least 50% of their Secondary One cohort via Direct School Admission ( DSA ) without PSLE scores.
The top schools give priority to GEP students when they admit students during the annual DSA exercise. For example, RI and RGS exempt the GEP kids from the General Ability Test if their average exam scores are above 80%.
What this means is that the future of your child is determined at Primary 3 when he/she takes the GEP selection test. Once they are in GEP, they will coast all the way to JC 2 for the GCE A levels in an Integrated Programme ( IP ) bypassing the onerous O-levels. The rest of the kids have to compete for the remaining places after their PSLE results.
So if you ask education experts like Jaren Chan if the trouble for getting your kids into the Gifted Education Programme ( GEP ) is worth it, he will say yes if your kids can make it as he has analysed developments in the Singapore education market since 1983. He once mentioned the above fact at a national education conference and I think he makes a lot of sense. This is where educated and smart parents make a difference to the success of their kids – they know the rules of the game and leverage them better than the average parents.
After reading this, please reflect on it and see what you can do for your kids – assuming of course he/she is smart enough to be eligible for GEP.
The real value of GEP is not the snob appeal but THE competitive advantage.
只要外籍学生在gep学生中所占比例没有大的改变，gep制度不会轻易取消，这时本地人仅剩不多的优越感之一。
所以呢，能上的话还是尽量的上，孩子学到的东西毕竟比较深一些，动手能力也会强一些。

这不就是纠结在升学的各种优惠, 至于GEP 有多好, 心里还没底, 总感有拔苗助长之嫌. 我们现在也是一只脚门里一只脚门外地在张望 .
GEP 没有拔苗助长,相当于分流教育,对接受力强有潜力的孩子就教得深入点而已. GEP的教学大纲和主流班的是大体相同的,并没有超前教育.
不考虑其它因素,只看去或者不去,最主要的是看孩子适合不适合.
说”拔苗助长”, 我觉得学校对非GEP学生在应付考试(主要是PSLE)上的强化手段更像拔苗助长,但这也是不得已而为之,可以说一考定终身,不进则退.
说超前教育,在我观念中,语言类(英文,华语)教多点,不算超前教育,小学高年级和中学的没什么明显界限.
考GEP,英文就是主要考核点,能上的英文能力都不差,是应该多教点多学点.

1. In a group of children, the mean age of the children is 10 years. If the mean age of the 8 boys was 15 years, the mean age of the girls was 6 years. How many children were there altogether?
2. 44 boys and 47 girls want to school camp. The pupils were put into groups. There was an equal no. Of pupils in each group. The number of groups is larger than the number of pupils in each group.
A) how many groups were there?
In each group, the no of boys was 1 more or1 less than the no of girls,

这个问题，在gep没发通知的时候我就提醒过大家，看好自己的名次，不要失去择校的主动权
lz你的短信我回了，目前你的这种情况比较被动，所以我给你提的方法也比较特别，你看看想想吧，其实为了孩子可以试下
忽然想起来，在提醒lz一句，去moe不要怕这怕那，记住一点，你的孩子是gep得主，他们moe得捧着你，有什么要求强硬的直接提出，只要不偏题，他们都会满足你的。

你解答得正确. 只是看了K论坛上解法,应该第2道贴出来的试题内容不全,导致2种答案. 所以加了一句(The number of groups is larger than the number of pupils in each group. )限制一下.

some information is missing.. for eg. For A) it can be either 7 groups of 13 children or 13 groups of 7 children
B) For 13 groups with 7 children each, each group will have either 4 boys/3 girls or 3 boys/4 girls
44 boys –> 44/13 = 3R5. So, there are 5 groups with 4 boys/3 girls and 8 groups with 3 boys/4 girls ie 8 groups with more girls.
For 7 groups with 13 children each, each group will have either 7 boys/6 girls or 6 boys/7 girls.
44 boys –> 44/7 = 6R2. So, there are 2 groups with 7 boys/6 girls and 5 groups with 6 boys/7 girls ie 5 groups with more girls.

当时我也意识到可能有两种答案，当7组成立时，就没想那13组的具体情况。看来我可以上GEP班了，赞！
LZ，我儿子和同学也面临同样问题。他的同学选择退出GEP，我儿子决定去上GEP班。虽然对那个GEP学校不是很满意，还是先上一段时间看孩子适应与否，喜欢与否吧。我儿子求知欲很强，现在邻里学校的老师没时间回应他提出的问题。GEP班的老师应该会好些吧。

我是对新加坡GEP体制感兴趣,之前去Kiasuparents看了几百页的帖子,就了解了一些. 本论坛里的讨论已经够丰富了,好像没有更多要说的了.

GEP確實讓學生有些額外的資源,
確實在DSA時有不少優先的機會,
再加上培養孩子獨力研究方面,
確實挺不錯的.
如果有機會讓孩子到GEP,
的確是件不錯的事.
