There are 80 stocks that make up the investment universe of the Straits Times Index (STI) and FTSE ST Mid Cap Index (Mid Cap Index). Of the 80 stocks, 75 stocks maintain an indicated dividend yield with news and data vendor, Bloomberg.
As we embark on the reporting season of Q2 12, as an investor, you might ask about the indicative dividend yield of those stocks that you own or watch?
The indicated yields as supplied by Bloomberg annualise the most recently announced dividend amount, based on the dividend payment frequency. To produce a yield this dividend amount is divided by the last price. In this case the last price represents the close on Friday 6 July. Of the 75 stocks that are dividend bearing, 23 stocks have a dividend yield above 5.0%. Of the 80 stocks that make up the STI and Mid Cap Index, the top 10 stocks by dividend yield currently all reside within the Mid Cap Index.

The two stocks with the largest indicative dividend yields are STX OSV and Sakari Resources. STX OSV constructs offshore and specialized vessels used in the offshore oil and gas exploration and is a component of the FTSE ST Oil & Gas Index. Sakari Resources is a coal producer and a component of the FTSE ST Basic Materials Index.
The next top four stocks by dividend yield are Real Estate Investment Trusts (REITs). REITs distribute at least 90% of the REIT’s cash flow income to investors in return for tax concessions from the Singapore Government. The ninth and tenth positioned stocks of the table are also REITs, bringing the total number of REITs within the top ten dividend bearing stocks within the STI & Mid Cap index to six.
Venture Corp and Pacific Andes Resources Development maintained seventh and eighth position. Venture Corp is an electronics service provider and a component of the FTSE ST Industrials Index. Pacific Andes Resources Development business is the developing, marketing and distributing of fish products and is a component of the FTSE ST Consumer Goods Index.
