Dollle

Japan steps up marketing as Singapore proves potential
Raini Hamdi, Singapore (2010-03-02)
JAPAN is stepping up promotion in the Singapore market further after last week’s NATAS Fair saw it elbowing out China as the top seller.
Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) Singapore executive director Hideki Tomioka said he had fresh hopes the target of 200,000 visitors from Singapore, set for last year, would be hit this year. The level fell short of 50,000 last year due to the A/H1N1 crisis, which saw Japan as one of the hardest-hit destinations.
As part of the increased marketing effort, JNTO yesterday held its first Visit Japan Travel Trade meet in Singapore, which saw some 50 sellers from various parts of Japan engaging 160 buyers from Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia and Brunei.
Another plan was to start marketing to young ladies and couples, not just families who comprised the main segment now, Tomioka said.
Agents are equally optimistic. CTC Holidays Singapore expects a doubling of volume to Japan this year and has just launched a private collection to cater to free and easy travellers who want more personalised service, according to assistant manager Japan Product Planner, Khamisah Salamat.
